Welcome to Saudi Arabia, a land of captivating contrasts and breathtaking beauty. Only recently opening its doors to non-Muslim travellers, this vast kingdom has numerous landscapes waiting to be explored. Bordered by the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, Saudi Arabia is home to large stretches of golden sand, as well as mountains that can reach 2,500 metres in altitude. Cheval D'Aventure/Equus Journeys started this project in 2021, and they now bring you the first ride in the region of Al Ula, in the north-west of Saudi Arabia.

Formalities

Please refer to your home country's Foreign Office website for up-to-date information. This section predominantly refers to UK citizens, and advice can vary depending on your nationality. Although we endeavour to keep this section updated, requirements can change quickly, and your home country's Foreign Office website takes precedence.

Visas

British nationals must have an e-visa or an electronic visa waiver, either before travel or on arrival in Saudi Arabia. The type of e-visa or electronic visa waiver depends on your reason for travelling and length of stay.

If you overstay your visa, please note that you could face large fines, detention and deportation, and/or be banned from returning to Saudi Arabia.

E-visas are:
  • valid for 365 days from the date of issue
  • valid for multiple entries, but only for 90 days in total in a 365 day period

You can apply for an e-visa online or when you arrive at any of Saudi Arabia’s international airports.

Electronic visa waiver:
You may also be able to apply for an electronic visa waiver, which allows you to enter Saudi Arabia once and stay for up to 6 months. You will need to apply at least 48 hours before your flight, or up to 90 days in advance. You will also need to give your flight details.

Passport validity
Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date you arrive in Saudi Arabia. You may not be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia if your passport shows that you or were born in, or have travelled to, Israel.

For more information and up-to-date information on entry requirements, please visit the FCO office website: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/saudi-arabia/entry-requirements

Health

It’s important to take out appropriate travel insurance for your needs. A GHIC or EHIC is not an alternative to travel insurance as it does not cover all health-related costs, for example, medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment and non-urgent treatment.

Travellers should ideally arrange an appointment with their GP around five weeks before travelling. This appointment provides an opportunity to assess health risks taking into account a number of factors including destination, medical history, and planned activities. For those with pre-existing health problems, an earlier appointment is recommended.

Insurance

It is a condition of your booking with Equus Journeys that you have travel insurance which covers you for the riding activities to be undertaken. Your travel insurance should cover you for medical expenses and repatriation. Your guides will require your travel insurance details before they allow you to ride and may refuse to let you ride if you cannot provide them. You should take your insurance documents with you.
