Africa awaits...

“If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa.” - John Hemingway

Dear riders,
As we near the end of 2020 – a rollercoaster of a year - we think it’s best to focus on what we “can” do, rather than on what we can’t. Although many of you are still subject to lockdowns in our home countries, some of you are still allowed to travel (US riders, I’m looking at you!). With many countries reopening their borders, Africa is becoming the continent of choice for travellers looking to escape the covid blues. In this newsletter, we look at some worthy options for the coming months.

South Africa
South Africa

International travel has now resumed to and from South Africa and the African summer is on its way! Our South African operators have kept busy with local business so far, but are beyond excited to welcome back international visitors. South Africa has plenty to offer – will it be a lodge-based adventure, a mobile safari, or an exciting trail ride along the Wild Coast?

Entry requirements: Upon arrival in South Africa, you are required to present a paper copy of a negative COVID-19 test to border officials. The test must have taken place no more than 72 hours before your departure.

Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has reopened its international airports to tourists and is a lovely place to spend some quality time in the saddle! The rains have arrived and the bush is lush and vibrant. Don’t worry… It’s nothing like the British rain! ;) Perhaps a good excuse to go on our revamped Elephant safari in Hwange National Park?

Entry requirements: Upon arrival, all travellers are required to have a PCR Covid-19 clearance certificate issues by a recognised facility within 48 hours from the date of departure. Additional restrictions may apply - please contact us.

Tanzania
Tanzania

Tanzania has remained open with very strict standard operation procedures in place for all operators in the country. The Serengeti is gearing up for the great wildebeest migration, promising the experience of a lifetime, and saddles are waiting to be filled! In the words of safari guide Jo: “The wilderness is more beautiful than ever and you have pretty much the nature and the wildlife to yourselves. It’s an experience that is hard to beat. So for those who can travel, this is the time!”

Entry requirements: The Government of Tanzania is implementing temperature scanning for all international passengers arriving into Tanzania. If you show symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival, you may be required to take a test then.

Egypt
Egypt

The winter is a wonderful time to visit Egypt – escape the cold and bask in the beautiful Egyptian sunshine! Explore Cairo and ride to the Great Pyramids, discover the hidden treasures of Luxor, and swim with horses in the Red Sea… Emma and her team are ready to show you “real Egypt”.

Entry requirements: International visitors will be required to present a negative PCR test certificate on arrival, and an indication of when the test was taken. The Egyptian authorities have advised that PCR tests must be conducted no more than 72 hours prior to flight departure.

 Kenya
Kenya

Kenya offers the original safari experience, outstanding natural beauty and a rich Masai culture. Ride in the Mara with our experienced safari guides or stay at a luxury lodge on the Borana conservancy – we have options for novice to experienced riders, solo travellers and families alike.

Morocco
Morocco

From the rugged trails of the Atlas Mountains to the wide-open spaces of the Sahara, Morocco is best explored on horseback… Our trail rides and centre-based holidays are open and ready to go – will you be joining them?

Entry requirements: Visitors will be required to complete a passenger health form and present negative results of a PCR test for COVID-19 before being permitted to travel to Morocco (with the PCR test dating less than 72 hours from the date on which the sample was taken, not from the date on which the result was delivered, prior to departure). You will also need an invitation letter that we will supply.

Namibia
Namibia

On the edge of Africa, few countries can compete with the eerie beauty of Namibia. With Equus Journeys, you can fly across the desert on mobile safaris, or experience the comfort of a safari lodge in a private reserve. The choice is yours…

Entry requirements: Any person entering Namibia must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test on arrival in Namibia. If the negative result is less than 72 hours old, there is no quarantine requirement. If the negative result is older than 72 hours but less than 7 days, then you will need to quarantine for 7 days – quarantine may be at home or in an approved tourist facility. Please note that Okapuka lodge is an approved facility.

Botswana
Botswana

Botswana is one of Africa’s prime wildlife watching locations, combining some of the richest Big 5 areas with jaw-dropping landscapes. Our Okavango Delta permanent camps are set to welcome their first international guests this December. From January onwards, you can also join safari guru David and his team on a mobile camping safari. The Kalahari is also open to groups of 4+ people and the Tuli Trail will be ready to operate once land borders reopen too – watch this space!

Entry requirements: You must present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed no more than 72 hours prior to your departure. After arrival, you will have to remain in contact with the local health authority for self-monitoring. If transiting via South Africa on the way back, you will need to produce a recent PCR test and as such, you will need to stay for two extra nights in Maun after your safari to get tested. The Thamalakane River Ride out of the Royal Tree Lodge in Maun is operating, and is not a bad place to wait out the results… Ask us for details.
