    Linden Tree
    Fly to Zadar, Rijeka, Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik airport (flight not included but we are happy to help upon request). If you have opted in for a transfer as part of your holiday, you will be met by a member of our local team who will take you to the ranch. You also have the option to rent a car to have the freedom to come and go as you please (valet parking at the ranch is complimentary). Depending on your group size, transfer to the ranch is not included in the listed price, please see "dates and prices" for more information.

    The ranch is located in the valley of Velika Plana, at the base of Velebit Mountain, inside Velebit Nature Park, a UNESCO protected biosphere reserve.

    Registration at the Ranch is at 15:00. Once checked-in, you will have a chance to settle into your room before dinner.

    Important: The following itinerary will serve just as a guide for you to know which activities are offered on-site. The ranch team offers a day-to-day programme where you can select different activities throughout the day. Please note that not all activities are offered every day, there is a set schedule for this. A list of the activities can be found below the ''dates and prices' tab.
  • Day 2 2: LINDEN TREE RANCH - No riding

    Linden Tree
    You will be transferred to the mountains, where you and the kids can choose from multiple activities. On Mondays the horses are usually given a rest day, so there will be no riding. However, you will be able to enjoy an adventure day in the adrenaline park where you can give the longest zip-line in Europe a try. ATV drives around the mountain and bear watching are also a possibility.

    Overnight at the ranch.

    Included activities in the adrenaline park:
    * Zipline: You will be able to glide through the air at 80metres above the beautiful scenery and 'fly' at 120km/h for 2km!
    * Adrenaline Park: A polygon of cables distributed between trees at 1-6m above the forest floor. Cross the forest while conquering fears and untapping sources of bravery.
    * ATV: Enjoy an ATV mini safari (for beginners and experienced drivers), you will be able to explore the woods on a adventurous four wheeler.
    * Bear watching: Among the rich fauna of the Velebit Mountain, bears are one of the animals you might spot. They usually roam the woods in search for berries and bugs.

    Today you will meet the horses and enjoy your first day in the saddle. This morning, you could get a western riding lesson to get to know your horse a bit better and learn about horsemanship. After a break and a 3-course lunch, you will be able to join the afternoon riding activity for a trail ride around the area. Ride into the forest and admire the natural surroundings. Your guides will take you to the most beautiful scenic locations where you will be able to stop from time to time to snap some amazing photos of the incredible landscapes.
    Note: Everyday you will be able to choose between a scenic trail ride or a fast trail ride.

    *Alternative activities:
    - Day long activity: If you don't feel like riding today, then you might be able to opt for a day-long canoe expedition across the beautiful Lika River canyon lake.
    - Supplementary half-day activity: If you are only interested in riding half-day (riding lesson or trail ride) you could also participate in other activities like archery, hiking, cycling, swimming, and more. Your hosts will make sure your itinerary is tailored to your interests and requirements. Supplementary activities will be available every day of the week.
    * Activities for the kids will be organised for half the day.

    This morning you could decide to explore the surroundings like a true cowboy. Ride across the mountains and explore this country's incredible flora and fauna. Explore on horseback the mountainous trails and arrive at a ghost town where you will stop for a quick lunch. Take a different trail back to the ranch, arriving just in time for dinner.

    * Alternative activities:
    - Off-ranch adventure day: You will be transferred off the ranch grounds in order to enjoy a great range of activities such as: ATV, Zipline, Adrenaline Park and Bear watching (Day long activity).
    - Kids: The little bears kids club will have plenty of half-day activities planned for the little ones.

    If you are feeling a bit more confident in the saddle, today you might go on a fast trail ride and set out to explore the mountains. Trot and canter along the way and give galloping a try on a nearby field. After lunch, it will be the kids' turn to hop in the saddle and enjoy a ride around the ranch.

    *Alternative activities:
    - Winnetou Trail: A guided jeep trip around the Velebit Mountain. You will be able to reach the deepest corners of the mountains where plenty of animals roam free. This excursion is a combination of an off-road drive and hiking. Lunch will be taken on the mountain (Day long activity)

    Enjoy today an exciting trail ride at the UNESCO protected biosphere reserve, the Velebit Nature Park. This nature park is the largest protected area in Croatia, and the most diverse in terms of flora an fauna. From the saddle you will be able to reconnect with nature and explore forests, lakes and incredible rock formations. Return to the ranch for a delicious lunch and be sure to sign up in the afternoon for either a wagon ride to explore the close by villages, or Cowboy games where friends and families get together to compete in fun games such as sack runs, tug of war, snap the apple, etc.

    This morning you may start the day with a final riding lesson. Your guides will be showing you some great horsemanship techniques to communicate and strengthen your relationship with the horses. After lunch, you will be able to explore yet another trail inside the huge Velebit Nature Park. This afternoon the kids can also enjoy rides around the farm.

  • Day 8 8: LINDEN TREE- LONDON - No riding

    After saying farewell to the Ranch's team, you will be transferred to the airport in time to catch your flight back home. Check out is at 11 am, if you have a later flight please contact us.

- International flights are not included, but can be booked upon request. Rates are per person (adult). Children under 18 will receive a special discount, please contact us for a detailed quotation.

- You can arrive and depart on any day and stay for as long as you like. Please remember Monday is a non-riding day.

- The group is made of 1-9 riders maximum for half day trail rides and 2-9 riders maximum for day long trail rides.

- Transfers from Rijeka, Zagreb and Split Airport (return) are included for 4 adults. For 2 adults it will have a cost of €250 (€125 each way), and for a single rider the transfers will have a cost of €370 (€185 each way). Other airport pick-ups are available (Zadar and Dubrovnik), please contact us for more information.

- Renting a car is also possible and highly recommended. Free parking on the premises.

- Gratuities (5-10%) are not included in the listed price.

- If riders wish to include an activity that is not scheduled within the week's itinerary, then it has to be paid separately and locally. Please contact us for more information.

- Non-riders are also welcome, as the ranch offers plenty of activities apart from horseback riding.

- Nanny services available €25/hour. The nanny can speak English, French and German.

Note: The ranch offers a great selection of activities for kids, however they must be the minimum required age to be able to participate.

Equestrian info


The stable is made up of 15 mixed breed horses (Lipizzans, Bosnian mountain horse, Croatian warm bloods, Arabian and Quarter horse). All of the horses are well behaved and have been trained for the trail rides.

This holiday is suited for all types of riders, especially beginners and intermediate. This is a family tailor-made holiday, your hosts will always make sure you are feeling comfortable with all of the horseback riding activities.

The Ranch offers two types of trail rides. The first trail ride is scenic. Riders will be able to enjoy the mountain trails at a walking pace, with a few trots. This type of trail pace is perfect for beginners who are still not very confident in the saddle, and also for those who are looking to explore the Park's beautiful scenery. The second trail ride is the 'fast' type. Intermediate or more experienced riders will be able to walk, trot,canter and gallop through different mountain trails.

The wranglers will tack and untack the horses for you.

This holiday is flexible to suit your riding abilities and expectations. There is no previous requested experience, as the ranch team will be happy to welcome beginners and intermediate riders.

Different types of accommodation facilities are offered at the Ranch. Depending on availability you can choose from single rooms, double rooms, suites, chalet, lodges, river tents and Native American tipis. They all include beds with linen, private bathrooms (except river tents), porches and mountain views.

The ranch also boats great amenities: there is a TV room, library, saloon, hot tub, swimming pool, archery range, badminton/volley ball court, and a nearby river.


All meals are provided for on this holiday. The food at the Ranch is Croatia- and Mediterranean-inspired, with everything prepared from scratch with the best ingredients, either grown on-site or locally sourced.
Breakfast: Buffet style including coffee, tea, milk and natural juices.
Lunch: Three course meal.
Dinner: Slow dinning, 5 course meal. You can expect bread, salads, pasta, beef, poultry, etc. Everything will be 100% organic.
Extra drinks and alcohol are not included but can be purchased locally.

Vegetarian diets and specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.


The ranch is located in the Velebit Nature Park at 700m above sea level. The mountain climate is pleasant during the warm months, April to October where the temperatures range from 15-30C during the day and 0-15oC over night. During the cold months, November to March, temperatures hover around 0C and drop well below 0C during the night.

At the ranch gratuities are not included in the listed price-plan to tip around 5-10%.

Packing list

Important: You should adapt this list according to your departure date and make sure to wear warmer clothes for the cold months (November-March). Remember that whatever the season, nights are cold and bad weather is always a possibility.

- A riding helmet is MANDATORY. Helmet makers (GPA, HKM, LAS Helmets, Lamicell, Troxel, Equithème) now offer horse-riding helmets that are ventilated, strong, light and comfortable.
- Sunhat: cap for when not riding
- Sunglasses - with a cord attached so they don't fly off when riding
- Buff or bandana for protecting your neck and face from the sun and dust

- Thermals (long or short sleeved)
- Short or long-sleeved shirts (to provide protection from the sun) or T-shirt in a quick-drying material
- Lightweight fleece or jumper.
- Warm fleece or jumper (and a spare one in case one gets wet)
- Warm Goretex-style jacket (water-proof and breathable) in case of rain.

- 2 pairs of riding trousers or jeans or chaps - we recommend riding in them at home before taking them on a holiday to ensure they don't rub.
- 1 change of trousers (riding trousers or jeans)

- Thermal trousers for cold days or for sleeping in

General information
- We recommend taking any valuables, such as your camera, iPod, iPad, medicines and glasses etc. in your hand luggage.
- Travelling in your riding boots and carrying your hat and some riding clothes is highly recommended - then if your luggage goes astray you are still able to ride!
- We recommend taking a copy of your passport and insurance documents with you in case you lose your originals.

Visa & Health


Croatia is an EU member state. You don’t need a visa for tourist and business trips of up to 90 days in any 6 month period. Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you don’t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this.


The UK is leaving the European Union. The rules for passports, entry requirements, driving, EHIC cards and more may change after Brexit.

If you’re visiting Croatia you should get a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving the UK. The EHIC isn’t a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but it entitles you to state provided medical treatment that may become necessary during your trip. Any treatment provided is on the same terms as Croatian nationals. If you don’t have your EHIC with you or you’ve lost it, you can call the Department of Health Overseas Healthcare Team (+44 191 218 1999) to get a Provisional Replacement Certificate. The EHIC won’t cover medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment, so you should make sure you have adequate travel insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment and repatriation.

If you need emergency medical assistance during your trip, dial 112 and ask for an ambulance. You should contact your insurance/medical assistance company promptly if you are referred to a medical facility for treatment.

It is a condition of your booking with Equus Journeys that you have travel insurance which covers you for the riding activities to be undertaken. Your travel insurance should cover you for medical expenses and repatriation. Your guides will require your travel insurance details before they allow you to ride and may refuse to let you ride if you cannot provide them. You should take your insurance documents with you.
